Note for drivers
If you passed your Driving Test after 1 January 1997 you do not have the D1 category on your licence automatically. The D1 category allows you to drive larger vehicles (over 3.5 tonnes in weight) with a minimum of 9 and a maximum of 16 passenger seats. You can drive smaller minibuses (less than 3.5 tonnes, typically less than 14 seats) but only as a volunteer. If you passed your Driving Test after 1 January 1997, you are required to pass an additional driving test in order to have the entitlement to drive a larger minibus, category D1, added to your driving license.
